PLEA will be adding an additional in person day to our schedule starting the week of May 3rd. Starting with 5/6/21, Thursdays will be in person at PLEA. Assuming things proceed smoothly here and the surrounding community data is supportive of doing so, we will add Fridays as in person days starting the week of 5/17. Our plan is to finish out the last month of the school year with 5 day a week in person instruction and to continue this through our ESY program, currently scheduled for 7/5-7/30.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education provided updated guidance indicating that, effective 1/25/21, school programs in counties designated as having “Substantial Community Transmission” could return to in person instruction using a hybrid model provided they were able to employ significant mitigation strategies.
The letter sent home to families on 4/26/21 outlines the reasoning behind PLEA’s decision to add additional in person days to our schedule.
Families should continue to review resources made available through this page as well as from their home school districts, Allegheny County, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
In order to re-open safely, PLEA has developed, in collaboration with important stakeholders, other schools, and public health officials, a set of practical and well-informed guidelines and protocols. You can download the current draft versions via the PDF forms below.
Return to in person instruction will initially utilize a hybrid model and following the Health and Safety protocols in this plan. As data and developments dictate, we will adjust our approach.
