PLEA will begin the year with virtual instruction starting on August 31st. This decision was based on the emergent recommendations for appropriate instructional models from the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the most current data available. The latest published data includes the week ending on 8/14. Because of the number of cases and the rate of positive tests, Allegheny County remains labeled as “moderate” in terms of community transmission. Classroom staff will be in contact with each family to review our virtual instruction offerings. PLEA will reevaluate our instructional model during the month of September and continue our active preparations for a return to in person instruction as soon as it is safe to do so. PLEA is engaged in active dialogue with state and local government agencies in order to make the safest decisions for all involved.
In order to re-open safely, PLEA has developed, in collaboration with other schools and public health officials, a set of practical and well-informed guidelines and protocols. You can download the current draft versions via the PDF forms below.
We are currently preparing for a return to in person instruction but are also making sure to have contingency plans should we need to implement a hybrid or distance model.
