Dear PLEA Families,
First, we are excited to welcome everybody back for a new school year. I hope that over the course of the 21-22 school year, we are able to put much of the difficulty of the last two years behind us. As we all know, the situation with COVID remains unresolved and still requires vigilance and planning. As such, the majority of mitigation efforts and policies from the previous school year will remain in place. While we hope that recent trends will reverse and we will start to see case counts decrease, we are unfortunately in a position where we see cases rising both locally and nationally. Our intention is to remain open for in person instruction and there are no current recommendations or plans to reinstitute virtual or hybrid instructional models for the 21-22 school year.
In order to create as safe of an environment as possible, we are again committed to wearing masks at PLEA, maintaining a regular cleaning schedule, limiting cross-classroom contact and communal spaces, establishing vaccine policies for staff and students as appropriate, as well as plenty of other measures. To these ends, we are again asking for your support in order to promote the health and well-being of everybody here at PLEA. Please continue to scan and check for the symptoms most commonly associated with COVID-19, including but not limited to, fever and cough. In the event that a student presents with these or any other related symptoms, we are asking that they remain home until they are evaluated by a healthcare professional. In the event that your student is eligible for a vaccine, we are encouraging families to pursue that route and can assist as needed. As vaccines become more widely available for children, it is likely that there will be policy adoptions requiring COVID vaccination, as currently exist for diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, measles, rubella, mumps, etc.
We are confident that we can again partner together to have another successful school year with both learning and safety as priorities. It is a privilege to educate your children and we are honored by the trust and faith you have placed in us.
